Solace Duval
Solace is a freelance illustrator living and working in NYC. Her practice is grounded in the process of using traditional materials like gouache and acrylic. She is inspired by nature, her Haitian and Puerto Rican heritage, and loves to tell stories through her illustrations. All of her work is related through a bold and whimsical style. She knew she wanted to be an artist after working in a painting studio during high school. It was there that she learned to paint and was soon teaching classes herself. At 18 she moved to NYC after being awarded a scholarship to attend Pratt Institute. Now, she is finishing her last year as a student and has experience illustrating album covers, doing portrait work, tattoo design, and creating art for nonprofit organizations and internships. She is also a co-founder of Big Picture NYC a mural painting studio that is working on some upcoming projects.
