This July, My Gallery NYC will be holding "The Michael Jackson and Prince 'Get Off the Wall' Art Show 1," a solo exhibition by Brooklyn-based visual artis Chic. The upcoming art show pays tribute to the expansive careers of two music luminaries — Michael Jackson and Prince — who earned the nicknames the King of Pop and His Royal Badness, respectively, by marching to the beat of their own drum. The show, located at 587 Franklin Avenue in Brooklyn, runs from July 15 to July 20 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., with an opening reception set for July 15 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
With an array of artworks that feature portraiture, sculpture, and more, Chic spotlights Prince and Michael Jackson's unforgettable showmanship; bold and influential fashions; dynamic album art; electrifying music videos; and lyrical symbolism over the years. The show's title is a playful combination of two songs recorded by the subjects: "Gett Off" by Prince and "Off the Wall" by Michael Jackson.
"My goal is to bring a visual concert to viewers by using three-dimensional elements, various textures, and creative outtakes associated with both multifaceted entertainers," says Chic, a longtime fan of both late icons, and an artist indelibly inspired by music.
Chic's artwork has been displayed around the U.S., including The Ali Cultural Art Center in Pompano Beach, Florida; The Sacramento Fine Arts Center in Carmichael, California; and the Fulton Art Fair in Brooklyn, New York. His paintings have also been included in online art galleries affiliated with institutions such as Medford Arts Center in New Jersey and Crossroads Art Center in Virginia.
