Desirée Conston
Desirée Conston is a self-proclaimed Android Phone Portrait Artist/Designer. Growing up her household was filled with images of beauty. From the expressive and expansive astrological paintings on the walls, to the beautiful drawings of gods and goddesses from her parents bookshelves. Desirée dreamed she would one day make album covers as beautiful as the ones of Earth Wind and Fire.
Desirée attended Moore College in Philadelphia where she earned a Bachelors Degree in Fine Art while majoring in Fashion Design. It was design that brought her to New York but it was the city itself that she fell in love with. Desirée felt restless in the world of fashion design and she began to dip her foot into the pool of acting. Eventually, she found her way back after this brief excursion, in the role of costuming and styling. For personal projects as well as theater. Sometimes documenting her personal excursions with photo shoots that told stories. While waiting for a photographer to show up she decided to take the reigns and do the shoot herself with the only tool she had, her Android phone. It;s here that she found a true passion. Actually doing it all, art direction, styling, photography, and editing. Creating wearable art pieces conjured up from her childhood images of fantastical beauty. MGM magical queens and 70’s R&B/Funk Divas, ruling from glossy album covers. Working one on-one with a model(s) sometimes collaborating.
With these pieces Desirée has merged elements of art and design to pull the viewer in to a hyperealized state of imagination. Here she utilizes beliefs, iconography and fantasy to create worlds that fuel the tradition of visual storytelling.
